Longyu: A Sauce Wine Packaging Design Inspired by Chinese Dragon Culture

Promoting Tradition and Environmental Consciousness

Inspired by the oriental dragon in traditional Chinese culture, the Longyu sauce wine packaging design by Wang Lina combines dragon culture and ancient astrological elements to create a unique and auspicious product. With its stunning visual symbol of a flying dragon surrounded by a 360-degree dragon, Longyu embodies the rich heritage of Chinese dragon culture and integrates classic auspicious elements into wine packaging.

This sauce wine packaging design stands out with its emphasis on the traditional Chinese dragon culture. The visual effect of the dragon flying in the sky pays homage to the dragon totem worshiped in ancient times and showcases the designer's commitment to preserving and promoting this cultural heritage. The combination of solar terms on the packaging signifies that a good bottle of wine needs time to settle, while the chiseled texture on the bottle symbolizes the spirit of ingenuity required to create a quality product. Longyu also prioritizes environmental sustainability by using biodegradable materials for the wine box and adopting a split display structure that eliminates the need for destructive opening. This eco-friendly approach not only reduces waste but also allows the wine box to be repurposed as a decorative item after use, adding a touch of artistic flair to any home.

The realization of the Longyu design involves the use of biodegradable and environmentally friendly paper for the wine box. The split-style structure of the box eliminates the need for destructive opening, creating a visually pleasing and ecologically conscious packaging solution. The wine bottle design seamlessly integrates the dragon totem into the mold, resulting in a translucent wood grain and glass combination that evokes a sense of majesty and elegance. The minimalist craftsmanship further enhances the purity and intuitiveness of the design, allowing the dragon to appear as if it is soaring through the clouds.

With dimensions of 190mm × 125mm × 310mm for the wine box and 85mm × 85mm × 25mm for the wine bottle, Longyu showcases meticulous attention to detail. The relief technique used to create the dragon totem on the bottle, along with the glass crystal cap featuring a metal relief texture, adds a bold and visually striking element to the design.

The Longyu design project commenced in Shenzhen in June 2022 and concluded in January 2023. It was officially listed and exhibited in Shenzhen in April 2023. Throughout the design process, the team faced the challenge of solving product problems through innovative design solutions, ultimately creating a packaging design that not only captures the essence of Chinese dragon culture but also meets the needs and expectations of customers.

Longyu has been recognized for its exceptional design and creativity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category in 2023. This prestigious award honors designs that demonstrate resourcefulness, technical excellence, and a commitment to improving the quality of life. By incorporating the best practices in art, science, design, and technology, Longyu exemplifies the positive impact that innovative and thoughtful design can have on society.
